Magoemon

Be the first to review

Stay in a UNESCO World Heritage Site! Magoemon is one of several charming traditional inns located in Shirakawa-go. Shirakawa-go is famous for its centuries-old Japanese farmhouses, some of which have been converted into places of lodging. For the price of a typical business hotel, visitors can sleep in rooms with traditional tatami mat floors below, surrounded by paper screens on all sides, and exposed wooden beams above. In the evening, after many of the gift shops and tourist sites have closed, guests return to the large dining area to find an exquisitely prepared multi-course dinner. The food includes local flavors that can only be tasted in this region of the country. Among the dishes include fresh mountain vegetables and succulent high-grade Hida beef.
Magoemon offers high quality lodging and the ultimate traditional Japanese experience at an affordable price. One small caveat is that there is only one bathing facility in the inn. It is not the traditional public bath style and is available on a first-come first-service basis. An alternative is a hot spring bath located a 5-7 minute walk from the inn. Frequently, discounts on hot spring admission are also provided for guests.
