“Love the soup and it will love you back.”
The inspiration for my interest in cooking is largely due to my mom. She started me out young and MADE me help out in the kitchen every day. All the grunt work was performed by me, which included washing and chopping all the essential components. My role as the food prep was not limited to but extended as the designated dish washer. After mis en place was complete, I observed my mom as she fried, grilled, or boiled away at the stove. At the moment I didn’t think it was fun and didn’t really appreciate what she was trying to teach me. But now I understand her good intentions and all the years we shared cooking gave me a good base to work off of. Well, to make a long story short, I pretty much learned all of the Vietnamese and Chinese dishes from my mom. My main focuses are perfecting her noodle dishes or make them slightly better with my variations.
I LOVE noodle soups and feel it is one of the most time consuming and complex food to get right. Making great noodle soups and all the work that goes into it is my passion. I love standing in front of the stove for hours (thank you wellness mat!) and watching the pot of ingredients marry together. You can take short cuts like using a pressure cooker but you don’t get to see, hear, and smell what the soup is trying to tell you. Love the soup and it will love you back.
