About

Iyashi no Sato is a former farming village to the west of Lake Saiko in Yamanashi Prefecture. It was destroyed by a typhoon in 1966, but has since been restored and maintained as a traditional Japanese village/tourist destination hybrid. You can think of the village as a giant museum! Each thatched roof house house contains little pieces of Japanese culture. You can learn how to make crafts, play with traditional Japanese toys, and even try on kimonos and samurai armor. For 500 yen, you can dress up and walk around this scenic village, feeling as though you’ve traveled back in time to a different era of Japan. On really clear days, you can even see Mount Fuji in the distance. It is an experience that you will never forget!
