Houryuuji Temple

Be the first to review

The Houryuuji Temple is the oldest existing temple in all of Japan and the first to become a World Culture Heritage Site. It is said that the temple was built by Princess Suiko and Crown Prince Shotoku in 607 as a promise to Emperor Yumei’s last wish to escape illness. The temple houses a Buddha statue dedicated to the emperor and a beautiful pagoda that stands behind the main building. The entirety of Hoyryuunji is celebrated and appreciated by not only the Japanese but by foreigners alike. It is indeed an inspiring beauty hard to dismiss.
