The de Young Museum is the Golden Gate Park home of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Its galleries present American art from the 17th century to today alongside art from Africa, Oceania and the Americas, international contemporary work, photography, costumes and textiles.
The current copper-clad building opened in 2005 and includes the Hamon Observation Tower, whose upper level looks across Golden Gate Park and the city. Visitors can explore permanent galleries, changing special exhibitions, gallery conversations and family programs, with a museum shop and café also on site.
The museum is at 50 Hagiwara Tea Garden Drive in San Francisco and is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.; the tower closes at 4:30 p.m. Advance ticket reservations are encouraged. The de Young is wheelchair accessible, offers group visits and private guided tours, and is served by nearby Muni routes.
