Namtso Lake is one of the sacred lakes of Tibet. We drove with mandatory tour guides 4 hours from Lhasa out to the area, because there’s a checkpoint system that doesn’t allow cars to drive faster or slower than the time given them. When we actually arrived, it was absolutely breathtaking. Everything, from the sky-reflecting water, to the yaks (which tourists can ride), to the giant rock formations covered in Tibetan kadaqs (welcome/prayer shawls) was totally one-of-a-kind. There are also some nearby restaurants if you get tired and hungry (which is very possible due to Namtso’s status as one of the highest lakes in the world). If you have a whole day in Tibet to see the amazing countryside, this is definitely a must-see!
