Taking a trip on the Staten Island Ferry is ideal for those interested in photography or anyone who wants to see spectacular sights – for free!
Start off in Manhattan, where the huge waiting area is sheltered and provides seating, restrooms, and even food. One can also look out at the water and incoming ferry. Wait time is small – no more than 30 minutes, I believe, and that’s when you’ve just missed a ferry.
On the ferry, you can stay indoors and sit down, but try to be one of the first upstairs and outside. Hold onto the railing, and look out at a beautiful sky, sea, and the Statue of Liberty.
At the Staten Island station, if you’re lucky, you can rush with the crowd to make the same/different ferry making an immediate return to Manhattan. Or stick around for a while and do some exploring in Staten Island.
