Yang’s Teriyaki Plus has served the corner of Monmouth Avenue North right off the Western Oregon University campus since March 1994, when Philip and Serena Yang opened the counter in a building a few doors down from where it stands today. The small, family-run restaurant still uses the Yangs’ original sauce recipe, and the dining room keeps the same no-frills, order-at-the-counter feel that’s made it a fixture of this small college town in Oregon’s mid-Willamette Valley.
The menu centers on teriyaki chicken and beef grilled and served over steamed rice, with a choice of noodles or cabbage mixed in, either cooked or raw, and two portion sizes to choose from. Everything is cooked to order and boxed up fast, whether you’re eating in, grabbing takeout, or ordering ahead through the restaurant’s own site or DoorDash for delivery.
A plate runs about $10 to $20 per person, making it one of the more affordable sit-down options near campus. Yang’s is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and closed on weekends, a schedule built around WOU’s class days. Beyond serving food, the Yang family caters WOU athletic events and sets up along Monmouth Avenue every year for the town’s Independence Day parade.
