Glendalough

Be the first to review

Tucked away in the county of Wicklow, Glendalough (which in Irish means “glen of two lakes,”) houses ancient monastic ruins from the 6th century, and lush, flower-dotted fields. A cemetery and stone tower mark the place with antiquity, but the site is very much alive with history and plant and animal life. Numerous hiking paths introduce you to peaceful forests and a picturesque lake, and one of these is part of an 80-mile trail through the Wicklow Mountains. The athletic can try rock-climbing hills of granite, but the place always is a respite for those needing the solace of the scenery.
