Shinjuku Sports Center is a public sports complex in Okubo, Shinjuku City, five minutes on foot from Nishi-Waseda Station and about ten minutes from Takadanobaba Station. The multi-floor facility is open to ward residents and other visitors, making it a practical place to exercise while staying in central Tokyo.

Facilities include a heated 25-metre swimming pool, a training room with cardio and strength equipment, large and small gymnasiums, martial arts halls, an archery range and a rooftop running course. Individual-use periods share the building with classes, group bookings and events, so the current schedule and congestion information on the official website are worth checking before a visit.

The center is generally open from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with reception closing at 9:00 p.m. It normally closes on the fourth Monday of each month, or the following weekday when that Monday is a holiday, as well as for New Year and maintenance dates. Bring suitable sportswear and confirm the rules for the facility you plan to use; the official individual-use price for adults is ¥400.

Robot Restaurant has raised the bar once again! The new craze in Kabukicho is the Robot Restaurant. For 4000 yen, one can enjoy an hour long performance with dancers, robots, motorcycles and more. The only way to explain this show is it’s Japanese hostess meets Tony Stark’s long lost Japanese brother.

As you enter the 1st floor lounge you will feel you have entered another world. If you are familiar with Japan, you might feel like you are inside of a Japanese pachinko machine. There are lights and shiny surfaces everywhere throughout this building. The staircase that leads down to the main stage on B2 is a trippy journey of colors and video screens on the floor and ceiling. Once inside the main room, there is tier seating on both sides of the room with large video walls that run the length of the room. You will see the fem bots standing a good 4-5 meters tall towards the entrance of the room.
You are provided with a bento lunch and canned Asahi and Lemon Chu-hi is available for purchase for 350 yen.

Yep, they went very classy for their food and beverages. We don’t want to give too much away, but expect the show to absolutely blow your mind with craziness. Each act increases in colors, robots and performances. Between acts you will have a chance to grab more drinks, snap a photo with the characters and robots, and at one point, each guest is given an iPad to briefly watch a 5 minute video clip. Nothing makes sense, it’s just sensory overload and Japan is the expert in the genre. Well worth the 4000 yen for the show. Be sure to go with a group of friends and have a few pre-game drinks to fully enjoy the show.

Hands down the BEST hospital I have ever been to in Japan. This hospital is a blessing and will make you feel like you are back home in the states at a reputable hospital with skilled doctors and modern medical equipment (you know…not the 100 yen shop flashlight that your clinic doctor used to check the back of your throat).

This hospital is huge with lots of doctors and English speaking sisters and doctors on hand. They have a maternity ward with English speaking doctors as well! They also have all the things a hospital SHOULD have (but most do not in Japan). I.e. a MRI/CT/XRAY machine, etc.

They have surgery rooms as well, so you know they have in-house skilled doctors and with all the necessary equipment. The hospital is also very clean. I think it’s strange that I have to say this, but Japan is pathetic in regards to cleanliness in hospitals. It’s like they are getting their medical information from a issue of the medical journal from 1894. All doctors wear latex gloves before performing examination and touching you as well as all patient bed/tables are freshly covered with paper sheets (you know the ones in the states). And yes, if you go to a regular clinic in Japan, the doctors RARELY wear gloves and I have NEVER seen the beds/tables covered with paper sheets. They must still think diseases don’t spread from one person to the next.

If you have had any experiences like most of us foreigners in Japan, this hospital will blow you away. Also it is very inexpensive, I was surprised how my payment amount was lower than EVERY single clinic I have been to for similar health problems. Go here and you will not be disappointed!

Ichijoryu Ganko Ramen Yotsuya Arakicho is a compact ramen shop on the first floor of Maison de Yotsuya in Funamachi, Shinjuku. Set in the backstreets near Yotsuya-sanchome Station, this current branch carries on the distinctive Ganko ramen lineage associated with hidden entrances, a counter-focused setup, and a devoted local following.

The menu changes with the day and the ingredients available. Regular announcements feature clear shio and shoyu ramen, the concentrated bowl known as “100,” and special broths built around seafood, poultry, or other seasonal ingredients. Pork, noodles, nori, bamboo shoots, and the shop’s “devil meat” may appear depending on the bowl, so the official account is the best source for that day’s selection.

Service generally runs from morning into early afternoon, but the shop keeps irregular closing days and may finish early when soup sells out. Check the official X account before traveling, especially when a limited bowl is announced. The small counter and daily-changing menu make this a focused stop for ramen fans exploring Yotsuya and Arakicho.
